My exact location on vast map of methodological approaches is best described as โoff course, but somehow still exactly where I should beโ.
I creatively mix computational methods with qualitative interrogation. For every project I design data collection, data storage and analysis pipelines that make sense for the project itself, stringing together different techniques and tools that get us to the answer.
My qualitative background means I always prioritise human interpretation, and take a critical approach to what exactly the techniques are doing and what the output means.
Some of the tools and techniques Iโve worked with include:
Data
- Webscraping, both static and Live websites
- APIs such as for Social Media Data
- SQL, NOSQL and Graph Databases
Analysis Techniques
- Text analysis through semantic embeddings
- Network analysis for finding relational patterns
- Document similarity clustering
- Visual object detection for large scale image analysis
- Sentiment analysis utilising large language models
- Named entity recognition
Data Communication
- Interactive dashboards using Dash and Plotly
- Automated construction of human accessible explorable archives via Obsidian
